Traditionally, health insurers have developed the benefits and services they provide with a focus on Western medicine. Things like annual checkups, preventive medical screenings and immunizations are common staples of health plan offerings.
Harvard Pilgrim recognizes that many consumers have needs that go beyond what insurers typically offer, which is why we developed Eastern Harmony.
Complementary medicine savings
“What one person thinks of as ‘alternative’ medicine may be a mainstream therapy to someone from an Asian or South Asian background,†explains Rose Hom, Harvard Pilgrim’s Eastern Harmony relationship manager. “We want to make sure our members have access to and can save money on the services that are important to them.â€
Eastern Harmony gives Harvard Pilgrim members discounts of up to 30% on services from a variety of complementary medicine practitioners, such Ayurvedic practitioners, yoga instructors, and others from the Healthways WholeHealth Network. In 2015, we will introduce acupuncture as a covered benefit on many of our plans.
