IAGB Seeks Your Help To Bring Back India Day To Hatch Shell

Press Release
06/19/2014

Established in 1962, India Association of Greater Boston (IAGB) is the oldest Indian-American organization in the Greater Boston. Its mission is to preserve and foster Indian culture, and to strengthen Indo-American friendship.

IAGB is synonymous with Hatch Shell. One of the major events that IAGB organizes is the Indian Independence Day.  The Independence Day has historically been organized at the Hatch Shell.  Second only to the US 4th July celebrations, the India Independence day draws, by Hatch Shell’s own estimates, about 20,000 visitors.

However, since the tragic Boston Marathon bombings in 2013 the cost of celebrating India Independence Day at Hatch Shell has increased more than doubled due to new, more stringent security requirements. As a nonprofit organization, we could not afford this cost and as a result we did not hold the event at the Hatch Shell in 2013. It is the earnest desire of Indians in Boston to continue to celebrate Indian Independence Day at Hatch Shell to send an unmistakable message that we are “India Strong” standing right next to “Boston Strong”.

“The current Executive Committee is committed to bringing the event back to the Hatch Shell on August 17, 2014 and we seek your financial support in form of donations. Please consider a donation of $10, $20, $50, $100, $250 or $1000 or any amount that you are comfortable with,” said Anil Saigal, President of IAGB.
