Under the proposed rule, published by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the application for the H-1B visa increases from USD 460 to USD 780, and L-1 from USD 460 to USD 1,385. The application fee for O-1 visas has been proposed to increase from USD 460 to USD 1,055. EB-5 visas for investors and entrepreneurs - also called the millionaires’ visa - will also become expensive going to $11,160 from $3,675 currently, while the fee for pre-registration for H-1B visas is proposed to go up from $10 currently to $215.

| Obituary: Meenakshi Narain |  |
Meenakshi Narain passed away on Jan. 1, 2023. She was a Professor and Chair of the Physics Department at Brown University. Meenakshi was born on May 9, 1963, in Gorakhpur, India. Meenakshi earned her doctorate in physics from the State University of New York, Stony Brook. She had a B.Sc. degree from Gorakhpur University in India and a M.Sc in Physics from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India. She was recently awarded a distinguished alumnus award from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India.
