Antara started taking lessons in Rabindrasangeet from her guru Ms. Swapna Ray at a tender age of six. At that time, she did not speak a word of any Indian language. But, through her music-training she sang effortlessly in fluent Bangla for almost two hours to a capacity audience who listened to her in rapt attention.

MIT arranged its MIT-India Fall Reception and Book Talk with Professor Ross Bassett of NCSU on September 29, 2016. Prof. Bassett did very extensive research using students’ information from MIT Commencement Programs that listed the name, hometown of every graduate. This allowed him to construct a database of every Indian graduate who graduated until 2000 with roughly 1300 graduates from the start and wrote a book titled, ‘The Technological Indian-MIT and India: A 130-Year History’.

It was an interesting period for three weeks, of losing the cell phone and getting the new one activated. I feel like it changed my life a bit or made me think about how I was doing things. I got some faith that people survived without a phone until a few years back and so can we. It is okay to be on your own sometimes, don’t have to count on the phone all the time. Probably there is a balance of using technology and still being able to live your life rather than being hooked to it.
